Born in 1960 in Paris, Patrick Rubinstein is a French artist who lives and works in the French capital.
As a child, Patrick Rubinstein was strongly influenced by major cultural movements of his time, including British rock, classic cinema, and American pop icons. His family also nurtured his artistic sensitivity: from his mother came his passion for cinema, while his father passed on ingenuity and creativity. He was the first to introduce him to the vast possibilities of optical and kinetic art.
Patrick Rubinstein sold his first paintings at the age of 18. Since then, his technique has continuously evolved, driven by a constant desire to innovate. It was later that he developed his current signature technique, allowing viewers to experience several artworks within a single piece. Double and even triple viewpoints create a unique sense of depth. Rubinstein questions perception and highlights illusion — the very essence of Optical Art (Op Art) and Kinetic Art.
He reinterprets the cultural and pop codes of his youth through his creations. Great figures of classical painting, street art icons, pop culture references, and surrealist imagery all become subjects for visual and perceptual transformation.
In 2013, only five years after selling his first artwork at Drouot, he ranked 89th in the Top 100 French artists with the highest market value. He has collaborated with major design figures such as Philippe Starck.
Since 2022, Patrick Rubinstein has joined Galerie Outsiders, where his work perfectly aligns with a curatorial vision focused on urban art, contemporary practices, and strong visual experimentation. His presence within the gallery further establishes him as a key figure in contemporary optical art.
