Born in Paris in 1975, Nasty is a leading historical figure in French graffiti. He discovered graffiti culture in 1988 and quickly established his signature across the walls and trains of the Paris Métro. In 1990, he joined the AEC collective — Artistes En Cavale — and contributed to the emergence of a scene that laid the foundations of urban art in France.
His work entered galleries as early as 1992, notably alongside JonOne and Psyckoze. Nasty gradually developed an instantly recognisable visual language built around powerful lettering, intense colours and the spontaneous energy of graffiti. Without ever turning his back on his roots, he creates a dialogue between street practice and the codes of contemporary art.
His work is also distinguished by the use of materials taken directly from the urban environment. Métro maps, enamel RATP signs, ceramic tiles and street signs become fragments of collective memory upon which the artist inscribes his name. Far more than simple surfaces, these elements extend the history of graffiti while maintaining a physical connection with its original territory.
Exhibited in France and internationally, Nasty has pursued an artistic practice deeply rooted in the spirit of graffiti for nearly four decades: free, direct and driven by a constant exploration of the letter. His work reflects graffiti’s journey from a largely underground practice to a major recognised art form, without ever losing its strength or authenticity.
