Julien Raynaud
Born in 1987, Julien Raynaud is a French contemporary artist whose distinctive visual universe revolves around colour, geometry and emotion. Since embarking on his artistic career in 2011, he has developed an instantly recognisable pictorial language, inspired by personal encounters, travels, love stories and life experiences.
Positioned at the crossroads of figuration and abstraction, his work explores the many facets of human existence through vibrant compositions in which shapes intertwine and colours engage in a dynamic dialogue. Beneath their apparent spontaneity lies a sophisticated exploration of balance, rhythm and light.
Over the years, Julien Raynaud has continuously refined and reinvented his artistic expression. Initially characterised by precise geometric structures and an intense chromatic palette, his paintings have gradually evolved towards a freer, more instinctive approach, allowing greater space for gesture and emotion.
In 2023, his solo exhibition Sans filtres (Unfiltered), presented at Galerie Outsiders in Rouen, marked a significant turning point in his career. Breaking away from certain formal constraints, the artist embraced a more spontaneous and expressive form of abstraction. Colour became a language in its own right, capable of conveying his deepest emotions with renewed intensity.
This period of creative freedom paved the way for a new chapter in his artistic exploration. From 2024 onwards, Julien Raynaud began reconnecting with the geometric foundations that had shaped his artistic identity, while preserving the spontaneity and energy acquired through his abstract experiments.
This convergence of compositional precision and expressive freedom reflects an artistic practice in constant evolution. Rather than confining himself to a fixed aesthetic, Raynaud continues to explore new possibilities, allowing each painting to establish a dialogue between the different chapters of his creative journey.
In 2026, fifteen years into his artistic career, Julien Raynaud demonstrates a mature and distinctive pictorial identity, driven by an ongoing pursuit of harmony between structure, colour and emotion. His work retains the profoundly human dimension that has defined it from the beginning: a vibrant, luminous and fundamentally optimistic vision of painting.
Throughout his career, his work has been exhibited in France and internationally, including in Paris, Monaco, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. His paintings have also entered numerous private collections, reflecting the growing appreciation among collectors for his distinctive artistic universe.
Represented by Galerie Outsiders in Rouen for the past ten years, Julien Raynaud has developed a close and enduring artistic relationship with the gallery. Since 2016, Galerie Outsiders has supported the different stages of his creative journey, from his signature geometric compositions to his abstract explorations and more recent pictorial developments.
This decade-long collaboration reflects a relationship built on mutual trust and a shared artistic vision. It also embodies Galerie Outsiders' commitment to nurturing long-term relationships with its artists, beyond passing trends and fluctuations in the art market.
Today, Julien Raynaud continues to explore a generous and expressive approach to painting, in which colour and light become powerful vehicles for universal emotions. His work remains in constant evolution, guided by a conviction that has shaped his entire artistic journey: art is, above all, a way of telling the story of life.
